Referee Game
Instructions
1. Be at the field 10 minutes before game time.
2. Check that the nets are appropriately fastened to the
goal posts and that the field is adequately "lined" -
If not, advise the coaches so they can satisfy the situation.
3. Under 8
Division plays 4 - 10 min. Quarters
Under 10 Division plays
4 - 15 min. Quarters
Under 12 Division plays
4 - 15 min. Quarters
Under 14 Division plays
4 - 20 min. Quarters
4.
Call all players to the mid field circle and explain to
them how you will call the game:
(a)
Show the players your Yellow card, Red card and Notebook.
Let them know that any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct (fights,
verbal abuse, taunting, etc.) among players on or off the field
is an automatic red card and the player is ejected from the game
and if necessary from the field.
(b)
Rough play and deliberate fouls (even deliberate hand
balls) call for a Yellow card, a caution.
With a second Yellow card to the same player, you give a
Red card and the player is ejected from the game.
Make sure you let the Head Referee know about any player
receiving a Red card, as that player cannot play the next
scheduled game.
(c)
As the game flows along, you make the necessary calls. In case of problems with coaches (there shouldn't be any),
you stop the game and request a meeting with both coaches at the
center of the field (players on their respective sidelines).
Ask the coach or coaches to control themselves and if any
spectators are involved in verbal abuse against you, ask the
coaches to handle that spectator.
You do not argue with anyone and if the problem is
not resolved for you, then you whistle the game over, with
no winner and go home, where, after a cool shower you call
the Head Referee with a report (coaches' names, etc.).
5.
Ask the coaches to supply a linesman for each side of the
field who will raise his/her arm when the ball
completely crosses the sideline.
You determine who's throw-in it is.
6.
On rainy days, proceed to the field unless you are
contacted by one of the coaches or the Head Referee
and told that the game has been canceled.
If you are not called and go to the field and find out
the game has been canceled, you will get paid for
that game (list it on your "Request for Payment"
form and indicate that although the game wasn't
played, you were not called).
Inform the Head Referee when you get home that no
one showed up.
7.
Be sure you move along with the flow of the game, never
should at least one of the referees be more than 20
yards from the ball.
When you make a call, Blow your whistle
Forcefully!
8.
Should you need a ride to the field, please call one of
the coaches the night before the game.
9.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call either
of the Head Referees indicated on your schedule and
at the top of this instruction memo.
10.
If you cannot make a scheduled game, attempt to find a
substitute referee.
If you are unsuccessful, call one of the Head
Referees at least by the night before so that a
substitute can be found.
We do expect referees to be responsible for their
scheduled games except for unforseen circumstances
such as sickness, etc..
11.
If a player is on the field and is bleeding (bloody nose,
cuts, etc.), stop the game and instruct the player and the coach
that the player is to leave the field and tend to the injury.
The player will not be allowed to return to the game
until the bleeding has stopped for at least 5 minutes and if
possible the wound is covered completely with a bandage.
There will be no exceptions.
12.
If you wish to get paid for you work, you must fill out
and sign the "Request for Payment" form handed out
to you.
Send the form to the address on the top of the form
and you will be mailed your payment.
