WOYSA Soccer Rules

8 & Under Division

• Substitutions shall be made on either team’s throw-in, goal kick, after any goal or at the start of a period of play.

• Offsides shall Not be called, however flagrant goal hanging is not allowed.

• Indirect Kicks shall be awarded for kicking, tripping, jumping at, charging, striking, spitting, holding or pushing an opponent, dangerous play, obstruction, delay of game and intentional hand balls.

• Direct Kicks shall Not be awarded.

• Penalty Kicks shall Not be awarded. If a foul is committed in the penalty area, an indirect kick shall be awarded from the nearest point outside the penalty area.

• 4 Periods shall be played. Each period shall be 10 minutes.

• No One shall distract or talk to the referee during play. Any questions about calls or explanations of rulings shall be made during the stoppage of play between the periods and should be in the presence of both coaches and both referees.

• Illegal Throw-in. A player will get at least 3 attempts at throw-ins.

• Goalie Ball will be called by the referee for protection of the goalie. The goalie can put the ball back in play after a save by throwing, rolling or kicking from anywhere in the penalty area. (Throwing does not have to be like a throw-in.)

• Intentional pass back to a player’s own goalie is a foul if the goalie handles the ball and results in an indirect kick from the spot of the pass. It is the judgement of the referee whether a pass is intentional.

• No jewelry or barrettes may be worn either during practices or games. Taping of earrings is not sufficient.

10 & Under Division

• Substitutions shall be made on either team’s throw-in, goal kick, after any goal or at the start of a period of play.

• Offsides shall be called and will result in an indirect free kick. A player is offsides if 1) the player is ahead of the ball with less than 2 opposing players between the player and the goal and 2) that player becomes part of the play by receiving a pass or playing a deflection from the goalie off the goal post. A player can not be offsides in their own half of the field.

• Direct Kicks shall be awarded for kicking, tripping, jumping at, charging, striking, spitting, holding or pushing an opponent, and intentional hand balls.

• Indirect Kicks shall be awarded for dangerous play, charging fairly, obstruction, charging the goalie and delay of game by the goalie.

• Penalty Kicks shall Not be awarded. If a foul is committed in the penalty area, an indirect kick shall be awarded from the nearest point outside the penalty area.

12 & Under and 14 & Under Division

A player is offsides if 1) the player is ahead of the ball with less than 2 opposing players between the player and the goal and 2) that player becomes part of the play by receiving a pass or playing a deflection from the goalie off the goal post. A player can not be offsides in their own half of the field.

• Direct Kicks shall be awarded for kicking, tripping, jumping at, charging, striking, spitting, holding or pushing an opponent, and hand balls.

• Penalty Kicks shall be awarded for direct kick fouls committed in the penalty area.

• Indirect Kicks shall be awarded for dangerous play, charging fairly, obstruction, charging the goalie and delay of game by the goalie.

• 4 Periods shall be played. Each period shall be 20 minutes for 14 & under and 15 minutes for 12 & under.

• No One shall distract or talk to the referee during play. Any questions about calls or explanations of rulings shall be made during the stoppage of play between the periods and should be in the presence of both coaches and both referees.

• Illegal Throw-ins shall be called and will result in the opposing team getting the ball for a throw-in.
